Before you begin
Use Windows 10 or 11, Visual Studio Code 1.106 or later, and an active Rivio subscription. Install Roblox Studio for connected project editing, playtests, and Studio-assisted publishing. Rivio is $30 monthly or $300 annually, for one person per account.
A compatible AI assistant is optional for manual editing. Its subscription is separate. Install Node.js 18 or later if you want to connect an external assistant through MCP. Blender and an ElevenLabs account are only needed for their respective workflows.
Install the two Rivio components
- Sign in, then open Account → Downloads. With an active Rivio subscription, download the VS Code extension (.vsix) and use the Roblox Studio plugin button to open its Creator Store page.
- In VS Code, open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P), run Extensions: Install from VSIX…, choose the Rivio package, then reload VS Code if prompted.
- Install Rivio from its Roblox Creator Store page, then open Roblox Studio. Keep only one copy of the Rivio plugin enabled.
Connect your account
- Create your personal Rivio account and choose Rivio monthly or Rivio annual on the Pricing page. Both subscriptions are Rivio and include the same features; only the billing period differs.
- Open your game folder in VS Code. Trust the workspace only if you trust its files.
- Run Rivio: Connect Account. Follow the browser activation flow and confirm only the device request you started.
- Rivio verifies active access before signing the extension in. Return to VS Code and finish first-launch onboarding. Settings → Account & getting started lets you replay onboarding or log out. Review and revoke devices from Account on the website.
Open your project
Click Rivio in VS Code’s Activity Bar. For a Rojo project, Rivio detects its .project.json file; use Rivio: Select Rojo Project if you have more than one.
Rojo is optional. You can also work with native Studio scripts by connecting Studio. For filesystem-backed Rojo projects, Rojo and its Studio plugin handle synchronization; connecting Rivio does not replace that sync connection.
Pair with Roblox Studio
- Open your place in Studio and save it.
- In VS Code, run Rivio: Connect Studio and choose Copy Connection Details.
- Open the Rivio widget in Studio, choose Pair with VS Code…, paste the connection details, and confirm.
- Allow the plugin’s localhost HTTP access when prompted. Confirm that your place appears connected in Rivio’s Explorer. Keep connection details private.
- For playtests, screenshots, and keyboard or mouse input, enable the Studio MCP server in Studio’s Assistant settings. The Rivio plugin handles live project synchronization.
Make one small change
- Expand your place in Rivio’s Explorer. Select an instance to see its properties, or select a script to open its actual source.
- Make a small change, such as renaming a test part or editing a short script. Save your work and inspect the result in Studio.
- Run a playtest and check Studio Output for errors. Stop the playtest before making persistent scene edits.
- Save your place and keep a backup or source-control checkpoint before larger changes.
Choose your next step
To connect an AI assistant, open the … menu beside Settings in Rivio’s Explorer, choose Install MCP, select your client, and restart it. The Connect an AI assistant guide covers the requirements and first request. Follow Everyday workflow for scripts and playtests, or Creative tools for animation, scenes, Blender, and audio.
If your connection or license is not ready, use the Troubleshooting guide. Package availability is shown in Account → Downloads after your subscription is verified. A pending release cannot be downloaded yet.
